The ‘sleeping tiger’ awakens

Salleh Said Keruak

China is said to be one of the oldest civilisations in the world after India. However, for most of its history, China practiced a closed-door policy.

It was not until almost three decades ago that China realised the world was moving towards a borderless world and that China has to become part of the global economy or get left behind.

It took only two decades for China to become the sleeping tiger that woke up. China not only made up for lost time but is now a leading economy.  It is rapidly emerging that if China sneezes the rest of Asia will catch a cold.

Malaysia’s policy of being friends with all nations for the last four decades with the late Tun Razak’s historic establishing of friendly relationship with China has today proven wise.

Malaysia, although a small nation, can prove to be a valuable trading partner of China. Malaysia, too, can benefit immensely from its trade relations with China.
